WARDOGS WD-L020 Crash Fix: Uninstall Windows Update KB5124010

Updated 2026-09-25

On this page

If WARDOGS crashes on launch or mid-match with error WD-L020, you are hitting the most widespread technical issue of the Early Access launch — and there is an official fix.

The quick answer

WD-L020 is caused by a conflict between WARDOGS and Windows update KB5124010. The official fix, posted by the developers on the Steam forums, is to uninstall KB5124010 and restart your PC.

How to uninstall KB5124010 (Windows 11)

  1. Open Settings → Windows Update → Update history.
  2. Scroll to the bottom and click Uninstall updates.
  3. Find KB5124010 in the list, select it, and click Uninstall.
  4. Restart your PC when prompted.
  5. Launch WARDOGS and verify the crash is gone.

If Windows keeps reinstalling the update, pause updates temporarily (Settings → Windows Update → Pause updates) while you play, and watch the official thread for a permanent patch from BULKHEAD.

If WD-L020 persists

  • Check the official thread (linked below) — BULKHEAD updates it as the fix evolves.
  • Some players report crashes with a different signature: Kernel-Power 41 errors (hard reboots, not game crashes) have their own community thread and usually point at drivers or power delivery, not the game.
  • Settings not saving is a separate known issue with its own thread.
