WARDOGS Helicopter Guide: Costs, Kill Rewards, and the AA Problem
Updated 2026-09-25
On this page
Helicopters are the flashpoint of WARDOGS balance discussion right now: expensive to field, profitable to fly well, and — according to a large slice of the community — far too easy to shoot down. This page collects the real numbers players have reported and the known control issues.
The quick answer
The Havoc attack helicopter costs $18,000 (community-reported) and earns roughly $1,500 per kill. The problem: counterplay is currently brutal — CRAM kills a helicopter in about 0.5 seconds, SAMs can hit you through terrain, and helicopters render for enemies at up to 1 km, so you are visible long before you can fight back. As of 2026-09-25, Season 1 post-wipe.
The numbers (community-reported)
| Item | Value | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Havoc purchase price | $18,000 | community-reported |
| Helicopter kill reward | ~$1,500 per kill | community-reported |
| CRAM time-to-kill vs helicopters | ~0.5 seconds | community-reported — the core of the "nerf AA" debate |
| SAM behavior | Can engage through terrain | community-reported bug/balance issue |
| Helicopter render distance | ~1 km | community-reported; you are spotted from very far out |
All values above come from player testing in the linked threads, not from official patch notes. Treat them as Season 1 snapshots.
Why everyone is arguing about AA
A 76-reply "nerf AA" thread and the helicopter balance thread paint the same picture: a $18k investment that can die in half a second to CRAM feels bad, and SAMs tracking through terrain removes the pilot's main defense (terrain masking). Until BULKHEAD adjusts this, the community advice is simple — fly low, assume you are always rendered, and never hover.
Controls: HOTAS users beware
Players report that HOTAS setups currently do not work properly with the Lakota — inputs are effectively binary (all-or-nothing) rather than analog, making precise helicopter flying on a stick nearly impossible. Force feedback support has its own request thread. If you are buying a stick specifically for WARDOGS, wait for a patch.
Which helicopters are in the game?
The community wiki ecosystem currently lists helicopter pages for the Havoc and the UH-1Y, and the Lakota appears in control discussions. Full stats for most airframes are not yet confirmed by the community — see the vehicles list & costs page for everything we can source.
