WARDOGS Driver XP Leveling: Why APCs Are the Only Real Answer

Updated 2026-09-25

On this page

Driver XP is one of the most complained-about progression tracks in WARDOGS: an 80-reply Steam thread exists precisely because leveling it feels impossible through normal play. Here is what that thread established.

The quick answer

Drive an APC. The community consensus is that APC driving is the only vehicle activity that produces meaningful driver XP (community-reported). If you cannot access an APC yet, Ural trade runs earn a general 1,000–2,000 XP per run while you work toward one.

What the community tested

ActivityDriver XP resultVerdict
APC drivingMeaningful, repeatable gainsThe one that works (community-reported)
Ural trade/logistics runs~1,000–2,000 XP per run (general XP)Best backup grind (community-reported)
Other vehiclesPlayers report negligible returnsNot recommended

Why it feels broken

Players in the thread report hours in other vehicles with almost nothing to show for it, which is why the APC conclusion spread so fast — it is less "optimal strategy" and more "the only thing that moves the bar". Whether this is intentional design or an XP-weighting bug is not yet confirmed by the community; BULKHEAD has not published driver XP formulas.

Leveling plan (community-derived)

  1. Early: Ural trade runs for money + general XP (see the money farming guide).
  2. As soon as you can crew an APC: volunteer as driver, every match. Stay alive — alive-and-driving beats respawn cycles.
  3. After wipes: expect the ladder to reset; see wipes & progression.
